Bloggers for Black Lives

#BloggersforBlackLives

I wear this outfit to stand in solidarity with all my black brothers and sisters who have been gunned down by the hands of those sworn to protect. There is an epidemic happening. It’s sickening and heartbreaking. Every month, there is another hashtag. With the same rhetoric: Unarmed black person shot by police. Everyday, many of us are in a state of FEAR. Fear that we may make the wrong move, come across the wrong law enforcement officer, say the wrong thing, that could cost us our life. We as black Americas carry this burden.

Today, I write this post so that everyone reading can take some time to reflect on what is happening. Maybe you’re not fully aware of what’s going on. Maybe you don’t think that it matters to you. But if this type of issue was constantly happening in your community, you would want others to take a stand with you. As one comedian put it: just because you’re not the one being bullied at school, does not mean you can not stand up to the bully.

Please take the time to educate yourself on the issue at hand. I aim to use this platform to bring awareness to things that are near and dear to me. Because I am black. I have a black sister, black brothers, black cousins, black uncles, aunties, nieces and nephews. This is my reality. Although it may not be some of yours, I hope that this post helps to shed light on this bleak reality.

I asked a few other bloggers to join me on this project and share their thoughts on this issue, in hopes to we make an even bigger statement. Additionally, we want to encourage other bloggers/creatives to use their platform to do the same. We are Bloggers for Black Lives. This is nice. And you’re right. Because it’s not happening to us does not mean we should turn a blind eye to it. I love the idea of ‘blogger for black lives. We need to create awareness in our own spheres.
